Competition Details

Event:: Structural Earthquake Stability Competition 9.0 (SES-IX)
Date:: Sunday, 20th July 2025
Time:: 8:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Venue:: Multipurpose Hall, UTAR KB Block, Sungai Long Campus
Organized by:: UTAR Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) Student Chapter & Department of Civil Engineering, LKC FES
Target Participants:: Undergraduate students (Teams of 3–5 members)
Registration Fees:: RM 180 (Local) / USD 50 (International)

About the Competition

Since its inception in 2015, SES has grown into Malaysia’s premier annual civil engineering competition, drawing over 300 students and lecturers from more than 20 universities and polytechnics, alongside support from professional institutions such as ICE Malaysia.

This year’s theme:

Stacked Structure

Participants are challenged to design and build a multi-tiered structure that:

Optimizes vertical space
Respects seismic design codes
Balances stability, safety, and functionality

In an era of rapid urbanization, the need for seismically sound and space-efficient design is more critical than ever. SES-IX offers a competitive platform to apply structural principles in innovative and sustainable ways.

Competition Objectives

Raise awareness of seismic design principles among undergraduates
Enhance the application of theory to real-world challenges
Encourage innovation in earthquake-resilient design
Foster soft skills such as teamwork, communication, and project management
Promote SES-IX to local and international students and institutions

Expected Learning Outcomes
